Every year Mrs Xiomara Menéndez and her husband Mr Ramón host a dinner to thank the generous donors of the Phyllis Berney Adopt-A-Crib Programme, bringing together supporters committed to securing the well-being and education of thousands of children. The evening celebrates the solidarity of those who make it possible for the Hogar del Niño to keep providing essential services such as nutrition, medical care, psychological support and innovative education with a technological focus.
Founded in 1998 by Mrs Phyllis Berney, the programme has grown to become the centre’s principal source of income, allowing its facilities to be expanded and improved and establishing it as the most complete educational and social centre in the Dominican Republic.
Across almost three decades the programme has raised many millions of dollars, breaking its own record year after year. That generosity has been key to the Hogar del Niño continuing to give children the education and quality care they deserve, following the vision of Mrs Berney, who always said that “Hogar del Niño is the heartbeat that gives hope for the future”.
