Sharon Encarnación and Nahomy Luis, two of our students at the Hogar del Niño School, were awarded scholarships by Patronato Benéfico Oriental, Inc. to take part in an internship at the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations, at UN headquarters in New York.
The process began by interviewing 12 outstanding students from the Hogar del Niño School, of whom two were selected for the experience, going on to an evaluation process at the UN.
On 6 July 2023 they flew to New York, where Jeanette Limas — a valued supporter of the PBO, to whom we extend our gratitude — met them at the airport to welcome them to the city they were visiting for the first time.

We are equally grateful to the wonderful people she introduced us to so that we could go through this experience at the UN. We also wish to thank Gala Matos, Third Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations, and Karla Tejeda, First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations, who organised this delegation and guided our students throughout the process.
Our mission at the PBO and the Hogar del Niño is to provide basic needs and opportunities for growth in education, health and leadership, through the tools that allow our students to achieve a better quality of life for themselves and their families.
